I OBJECT
Peta Treble and Nissassa Bacci
Opening Night Friday 18 March
From 4:00PM Onwards
I OBJECT negotiates the space between the practical and the emotional, the mass-produced and the personal, the cerebral and the corporeal. By transforming utilitarian forms and found materials into surreal bodies, Nissassa Bacci and Peta Treble give everyday objects agency. Asking questions around various experiences of consciousness, the role ‘stuff’ has in determining our identity, as well as playing with perceptions of reality, Bacci and Treble play with notions of objectification and personification.
Nissassa Bacci
Nissassa Bacci (she/her) is a sculptor, painter and installation artist. Bacci’s practice is highly informed by her childlike approach to material exploration, used predominantly to create distorted references to the human body. Her works provoke discussions around ideas of objectification, the subconscious, our own realities and the spaces we inhabit. Bacci’s often unsettling works aim to transport her audience into her world or at least to leave theirs at the door.
Peta Treble
Peta Treble (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily with video, sculpture and installation to investigate processes of perception and challenge ideas of logic in determining meaning. By engaging with the liminal space between what something is and how it is perceived, Treble aims to open discourses concerning the existence of truth, the implications of context, and the absurdity of constructing meaning in a chaotically random world.
